One of the books I'm delving into this week.
Let me give you a taste of one of the early pages:
Today, there's never been a worse time to be a chicken. Chickens on industrial farms live their lives in cramped cages or perhaps in cage-free facilities, stuffed together on a dusty floor where at least they can spread their wings. The Humane Methods of Slaughter Act, passed in 1958, requires all animals be "rendered insensible to pain" before being shackled or killed -- all animals except for poultry.
The poultry industry, the dairy industry, the pork industry, the beef industry -- all inhumane. It's all about the money. Of course.
At least these seven beauties get to forage in manure and grass -- a taste delight.
As last week's post took a brief look at our inside life, so it goes this week.
Let's take a peek at afternoon naps --
It's so terribly cruel how chickens are treated and it upsets me greatly. It is the reason I do not eat meat of any kind and just don't miss it at all. It's not that I think everyone should be vegetarian at all (my husband is a meat eater and I can't change that) but for me it is a personal decision and I'm happy with my choice. For me animals are better than a lot of human beings I have met. They don't let you down and are unconditional. I would rather be in the company of my animals or any other animals for that matter as I believe the best thing in this world that we have is animals. I just love the look of the afternoon naps, bless them.
ReplyDeleteLove you, Louise.
DeleteI lived in KS for two two years. The industrial animal farming made me stop eating meat. It was horrible.
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to see your dogs again.
Happy Spring,
Kay
Kay, that would have been horrible. What state are you in now?
DeleteHi,
